The North Island Silvertips slayed the Giants in their home-opening weekend. Nanaimo’s B.C. Major Midget League hockey team split with the Vancouver Northwest Giants, the league’s perennial powerhouse, Saturday and Sunday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
The Giants won the first game 6-2 but the ’Tips took the rematch 3-2. Grady McInnes scored twice in the victory with Clayton Peace also tallying. Goalie Liam Young was strong in the win.
The day before, McInnes and Hunter Findlater scored for Nanaimo.
The Silvertips play at Fraser Valley this Saturday (Sept. 28) and Sunday.
