Simon leads Lions to Chilliwack

BC Lions

Sports & Stuff in the Chilliwack Mall is bringing in a trio of B.C. Lion heavyweights on Aug. 6.

From 1 to 3 p.m., Canadian Football League fans will be able to meet and greet star wideout Geroy Simon, one of the top pass catchers in CFL history.

The longtime Lion is closing on in former Winnipeg Blue Bomber Milt Stegall for top spot in all-time receiving yards — if he doesn’t catch Stegall this year, it’s a near certainty he’ll do it early in the 2012 season.

So far this year, the Pennsylvania native has 16 catches for 272 yards and one touchdown.

Simon has spent 11 of his 13 CFL season on the west coast.

Solomon Elimimian will be joining Simon in Chilliwack. The 2011 CFL rookie of the year is off to a dominating start, teaming with Korey Banks and Anton McKenzie to give the Lions one of the best linebacking corps in the league.

Elimimian was born in Calabar, Nigeria and played his college ball at the University of Hawaii.

In three games this year he has 21 tackles and one fumble recovery.

The third Lion making his way to Chilliwack is placekicker Paul McCallum. The Surrey native is back for his 19th year in the CFL, his eighth kicking for the Lions.

Years ago, McCallum was a member of the B.C. Football Conference Surrey Rams, and last season he beat off a bid by another former Ram, Sean Whyte, to take his job.

During his career, McCallum has punted for 70,079 yards, place kicking for another 17,000.

The 41-year-old has a career 78.1 field goal percentage with 2,368 points scored.

The Chilliwack Mall is located at 45610 Luckakuck Way.

Fans are encouraged to bring their own cameras for pictures. Those who arrive early will be eligible for early-bird prize draws.
