Skippers win big at B.C.’s

The Abbotsford Skipping Sensations turned in a remarkably dominant performance at rope skipping provincials at Rosedale Community School last week.

The local club brought home 13 of a possible 15 medals in the five female categories they participated in, highlighted by a top-six sweep in the 12-14 division and a top-five sweep in the 15-17 bracket.

“I think we’ve worked very hard for that,” said head coach Deirdre DeGagné. “We have an exceptionally hard-working group, and the results show. They’re very disciplined.”

Gold medallists included Sarah Korstrom (8-9 female), Ellory Smith (10-11 female), Sadie Baird (12-14 female), Alexa Lagunes (15-17 female) and Hannah Perkins (18-29 female).

Silver medallists were Clea Brummitt, Kaeli Wiens, Arden Mills and Kourtni Eckstein, while Kira Peary, Emma Reitsema, Brittany Van Herk and Emily Whitman collected bronze medals.

Twenty Skipping Sensations athletes will attend nationals in St. Catharines, Ont. next week.
