Vancouver Island University’s women’s soccer team is raring to go, but the opposition just isn’t ready.

Warner Pacific University, slated to face the Mariners this Thursday (Aug. 18), cancelled due to player eligibility issues with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

“We were looking forward to playing a top NAIA team in preparation for our season,” said Anup Kang, VIU coach, in a press release. “We will play local boys’ rep teams instead.”

The friendly with Warner Pacific may be rescheduled for this coming spring.

The VIU women will take on Peninsula College on Monday (Aug. 22) at 5 p.m. at Mariner Field.
