The Setters’ Pub women’s soccer team chalked up another win on Tuesday to take them to three in a row after a rough and tumble game against Vernon’s NOU.
The game remained sportsmanlike thanks to some excellent refereeing. About 20 minutes into the first half, Carol Rogers took a corner kick from the left side and curled the ball beautifully back in to the far corner of the net.
About 10 minutes into the second half Cathy Bartsch made a lofting cross directly in front of the net to the awaiting forwards. The ball was intercepted by an NOU defender who incidentally knocked it directly into her own net.
Fifteen minutes later it was Bartsch again who passed the ball off to Bonnie Kelly at the top of the six-yard box. Kelly one-touched the ball straight into the back of the net taking the score to 3-0. In the final 15 minutes of the game NOU poured it on and had some excellent chances in the Setter’s defensive end.
With a bit of luck and an excellent defensive effort by Tanya Bushell and Dina Vann, the Setters maintained the shutout and won the game 3-0.
