Sockeyes bring home silver from Kelowna

The Salmon Arm Sockeyes headed to one of their most competitive meets of the season this weekend in Kelowna.

They placed second to the host team, with less than half the number of swimmers.

The division two girls’ medley relay started off the Sockeyes record-breaking, smashing the 29-year- old record from 1982.

The relay team consisted of Chantel Jeffrey, Aria Izik-Dzurko, Emma Levins, and Keeya Corbett.

Jeffrey also broke the division two girls’ 50-metre butterfly record from 2010. Jaeden Izik-Durko broke the division three boys’ 100-m individual medley record from last year.

The division three boys’ freestyle relay team consisting of Izik-Dzurko, Matt Cooper, Matthew Nesdoly and Gaelyn Gilliam broke the 20-year old record from 1991.

Brayden Gilliam broke the division five boys’ 100-m butterfly record from 2001.  Jake Kitchen finished off the records for the Sockeyes breaking both the 200-m individual medley and 100-m backstroke relays in division seven boys’ from 1998 and 1993 respectively.

The Sockeyes had a successful aggregate weekend, meaning many swimmers were in the top three overall in their respective age categories.

In division one, Julianne Moore came third and Keeya Corbett second on the girls’ side, with Matthew Bushell third and Eric Moore second for the boys.

Aria Izik-Dzurko took home bronze, and Chantel Jeffrey tied for gold in division two girls.

Tyler Bushell won bronze, and Stephen Moore tied for gold in division two boys.  Sockeyes swept division three boys, with Matthew Nesdoly winning bronze, Matt Cooper silver, and Jaeden Izik-Dzurko gold.

Division four, five, and six took home many silver aggregates.  Tricia Fair and Alexander Corbett took home silvers in division four, Eliza Jane Kitchen and Brayden Gilliam in division five, while Reta Stevenson and Carmen Underhill tied for silver in division six.

Jake Kitchen tied for gold in division seven boys.

A number of swimmers had notably exceptional weekends with many best times and great technical focus.

Jon Wex and Meghan Fair both had outstanding meets.

Jacquelyn and Oscar Kolotylo has best times in every event.  Bobby Stevenson made finals in each of his events, placing second in 100-m breaststroke.17:09:06
