Spartans 6-0 after Husky sweep

Trinity Western women's volleyball team has dropped just two sets on the season

The Trinity Western Spartans continued their early season success, picking up another pair of victories to improve to 6-0 on the season.

The women’s volleyball team hit the road in Saskatoon and defeated the host Saskatchewan Huskies 3-0 (25-13,25-15,25-20) and 3-1 (25-14,25-20,24-26,25-14) and they have dropped just two sets so far this season.

TWU is ranked third in the country.

“It’s great to go out on the road and come away with two wins,” said Spartans coach Ryan Hofer. “Saskatchewan fought hard tonight and it was solid volleyball on both sides.

“Offensively, we had great performances all around. But we’re working on getting better, so we’re looking forward to our bye week and cleaning up areas where we’re giving away free points. But overall, I’m really pleased with the weekend and the sweep.”

Elly Wendel (13), Rowyn Neufeld (12), Sophie Carpentier (11) and Katelyn Devaney (10) all reaching double digits in kills for the Spartans.

Nikki Cornwall led the team with 36 assists.

The team finished with a .346 hitting percentage compared to .093 for the Huskies.

TWU also had an 11-3 edge in blocks with Devaney and Kristin Anton each finishing with five blocks.

In Friday’s win, Carpentier had 15 kills and finished with a .536 kill percentage.

The Spartans are off this weekend and host Regina Nov. 13-14.
