Trinity Western Spartans’ Claudette Allen was named the Canadian Interuniversity Sport track and field female rookie of the year.
Allen, who is from New Longville, Jamaica, also won gold for the Spartans at the CIS track and field championships last week in Windsor, Ont.
She won the long jump competition with a leap of 6.20m. Two weeks earlier, she had won the same event at the Canada West championships with a jump of 6.22m.
Prior to coming to Langley, Allen was named the most outstanding female athlete at the 2014 Champs — Jamaica’s most prestigious boys and girls championships — and captained her high school to the competition’s team title.
And at the 2014 CARIFTA Games, which features countries within the Caribbean Free Trade Association, she earned a silver medal in both the U-20 long jump and triple jump competitions.
