The Trinity Western Spartans lost just two matches all season, but one of the squads which handed them a defeat is all that stands in Spartans way of a spot at the national championships.
The Spartans men’s volleyball team is the top seed for the Canada West Final Four championships, which will be held Friday and Saturday (Feb. 21 and 22) at the Langley Events Centre.
The Spartans are hosting as the top seed, thanks to a 20-2 regular season record.
Their opponent in the semifinals will be the Brandon Bobcats (10-12) who were the last of the seven Canada West playoff teams. But the Bobcats knocked off No. 2 UBC in the quarter-finals.
The teams play Friday night at 8 p.m.
The first semifinal pits No. 3 Alberta (15-7) against No. 4 Thompson Rivers (13-9).
The bronze medal game goes Saturday at 5 p.m. and the gold medal match is at 7 p.m.
The top two teams advance to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport national championships.
Trinity Western is looking to make their fifth straight appearance at nationals, with two gold and one silver in the past four seasons.
