Spartans win fourth straight

Trinity Western hockey team improves to 5-2 after wrapping up 4-1 home stand at Langley Events Centre

The Trinity Western Spartans hockey team closed out a five-game home stand with their fourth straight victory.

Jamey Kreller scored midway through the third period to snap a 2-2 tie and give the Spartans the 3-2 win over the SFU Clan.

The win improves TWU to 5-2-0 on the season.

SFU opened the scoring 15 seconds in and led 2-0 with less than two minutes to go in the first period before Dawson Sawatzky and Brett Wur equalized prior to intermission.

“SFU came out and got an opportunistic bounce right off the bat there and our guys were kind of reeling a bit,” said Spartans coach Barret Kropf. “We said we wanted to come out and set the tone and then to have that happen in the first 20 seconds was a bit deflating.

“But once we were able to calm down a bit, we got a couple of quick ones at the end of the period and that really gave us some momentum going into the locker room. After that, we kind of hit the reset button and we came out with a solid 40 minutes and in the end it was another solid team effort.”

Silas Matthys made 32 saves for the win.
