The Comox Valley Special Olympics swim team recently hosted a swim meet with teams from Port Alberni, Oceanside, Cowichan Valley and Powell River competing.

“Our athletes did really well,” said coach Nikki Apps, noting that team members collected 20 personal bests, and 21 ribbons overall. “The community support has been amazing”, said Apps.

“Subway and Thrifty Foods both donated food for athlete lunches and for the volunteers.  The Sharks and Blue Devils swim teams provided timers and stroke and turn judges.  And of course there were volunteers from across the community to help with the organization.  We really couldn’t do have done it without them,” Apps said.

“If you’re a fan of determination, you’re a fan of Special Olympics. We are always so grateful to have such fans in our community.”
