Player of the week

Salmon Arm’s Quinn Rempel was awarded player of the week by the Superior International Junior Hockey League. The Thunder Bay North Star forward accumulated eight goals in three games the week ending Nov. 6, helping the North Stars record a trio of victories.

Rempel’s offensive outburst moves him into a share of the team lead in scoring with 19 points, including 11 goals, as well as slide into a tie for eighth in league production. He currently sits tied for third in the SIJHL for game-winning goals with two.

Flockhart honoured

For the second consecutive year, Jill Flockhart of Salmon Arm has been honoured by the Western Athletic Conference for her outstanding play with the University of Idaho soccer Vandals.

With the release of its 2011 All-WAC teams, Flockhart joined teammate Chelsea Small as the second player in program history to earn multiple first-team all-conference honours.

“It’s really an honour to be recognized by the other coaches in the conference,” said Flockhart in a press release. “It comes down to the back line getting the ball forward and everyone working hard to get to the goal and finish.”

This season, the outside midfielder led Idaho and tied for third in the WAC with six assists.

Time for Jackrabbits

The Jackrabbit cross country ski program for children, a fun and positive introduction to cross-country skiing for children, gets underway at Larch Hills on Dec. 10. Online registration is open and will continue until Nov. 30 provided there is space available. One parent or guardian must be a member for a child to be in Jackrabbits. You may register at Zone 4.

Several new leaders are needed this year to help the program run successfully. It is not necessary to be an “expert” skier to lead a group. Contact Suzy Beckner at 250-832-0089 or Carmen Fennell at 250-833-5786 if you are interested.
