A curling jitney, badminton club, hockey and more on the Alberni sports scene

Badminton starts at Athletic Hall

Kids ages eight to 18 years are encouraged to come out to the Alberni Athletic Hall and try out badminton.

The Alberni Athletic Junior Badminton Club meets Mondays and Thursdays at the Athletic Hall on Roger Street, next to the AV Multiplex. Ages eight to 12 years play from 6–7 p.m. and ages 13–18 play from 7–8 p.m.

Rackets and badminton birds are provided. All youth need are running shoes.

The first session for registration and play is Monday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m.

The Alberni Valley Curling Club kicks off its season on Saturday, Sept. 24 with a season opener jitney—a beverage and burger night followed by a non-competitive game.

The game starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door. Please call 250-723-3111 to register.

Hometown hockey tour

Rogers Hometown Hockey is coming to Nanaimo on Feb. 26, 2017. Preparations for the national event are underway.

The event will be televised.
