Symonds defends BMO title

“It was a great day to run, perfect weather conditions,” said Symonds. “I was extra motivated to win and defend my previous titles at my hometown race. I love this course, I felt good, solid the whole way through.”
Spectators lined the course to cheer on the runners who experienced ideal conditions for course. Placing second was Calgary runner Alistair Hill with a time of 1:14:23, followed by Nathan Champness of Vernon in 1:18:09. The BMO Okanagan Marathon had 3,000 participants take part in the family festival and Boston qualifying event. Sundays marathon also featured the 10 kilometre distance. Klingspohn hot in KI
Penticton Minor Hockey product Tyson Klingspohn was recognized by the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League under its Who’s Hot in the KI? Klingspohn, in his third season with the Kimberley Dynamiters, racked up five goals and added an assist against Kelowna then added another two goals and an assist against Beaver Valley. Klingspohn’s coach, Jerry Bancks, said he had an amazing weekend. “His best thus far with more to come as he is a tremendous person and player,” said Bancks. “Tyson plays well in both ends of the rink and has played many great games without the point production so it was nice to see him rewarded with the goal explosion.” Klingspohn currently sits in 13th among the KIJHL’s top 20 scorers with nine goals and 15 points in 10 games.

Rigby becomes a Bronco
Penticton’s Carter Rigby was dealt by the Kelowna Rockets in the Western Hockey League to the Swift Current Broncos. Rigby was moved for a third round WHL bantam draft pick in 2016. The move was made since the Rockets were one over the league’s 20-year-old limit of three. On the Rockets website, Rockets president and general manager Bruce Hamilton said it’s a big loss for the organization to lose Rigby.
“Carter is a quality young man and he has been an important part of our organization for three years, not only on the ice but out in our community as well,” said Hamilton.
Rigby joined the Rockets in 2011-12 playing 171 career games. He scored 57 goals, including 21 as a rookie. In his first seven games this season, Rigby had five goals. The return of Philadelphia Flyers prospect Tyrell Goulbourne pushed the Rockets over the limit.
