The Abbotsford bantam AAA Hawks minor hockey team is hosting its annual Dallas Saunders Memorial Tournament this weekend.

The event runs at the MSA, Abbotsford Recreation Centre and Matsqui Recreation Centre arenas, and features 12 teams from around the province. Games begin Thursday at 2:45 p.m., and continue through Sunday capped by the bronze (10 a.m.) and gold (12:30 p.m.) medal games at MSA Arena.

The host Hawks, coached by Brad Bowen, feature a veteran roster with 15 second-year bantam players. They were finalists at a tourney in Kamloops earlier this fall.

RUNNER REIMER WINS GOLD WITH T-BIRDS

Sarah Reimer of Abbotsford played a key role in UBC’s victory at the NAIA women’s cross country national championship, held last Saturday in Vancouver, Wash.

Reimer was 26th in a field of 320, and was one of four Thunderbirds runners to earn All-American honours. She finished the 5km race in 18 minutes and 25 seconds. UBC won the women’s and overall combined titles.

RAVENS BLANK ROADRUNNERS, OFF TO SEMIS

The Eugene Reimer Ravens blasted the Mission Roadrunners 32-0 in Grade 8 provincial quarter-final action last week.

Dylan Manocha and Bobby Narang scored two touchdowns apiece, and both also notched a pair of two-point converts. Josh Sahota (11 tackles) and Kevin Bhadesh (two interceptions) led the defence.

The Ravens move on to play Abbotsford Middle in the AA semifinals on Wednesday at Mouat Field (3 p.m. kickoff).
