Sports in brief: Claypool leads Panthers past Hawks

The Hawks got off to a great start when Nelson Lokombo raced for a 75-yard touchdown on their first play from scrimmage, but the Panthers rallied behind a big game from Chase Claypool, who returned an interception 79 yards and caught a 50-yard scoring pass from John Madigan. Mike Sabourin and Richard Tshimpaka also had TD runs for the Panthers.

RAVENS ROLL VS. ROADRUNNERS

The Eugene Reimer Ravens raced past the Mission Roadrunners 36-6 in Grade 8 football action on Monday.

Arvin Sharma led the way with three touchdowns and a pair of two-point converts. Anthony Pham had two TDs, while Harjot Dhaliwal, Karn Minhas, and Dilraj Brar also had outstanding performances. Up next for the Ravens is an exhibition game on Monday, Oct. 7 vs. G.W. Graham (3:45 p.m. at Hansen Secondary).

YALE TO HOST CIS V-BALL

Yale Secondary is playing host to a CIS exhibition volleyball game between the Trinity Western Spartans and the UBC Thunderbirds.

The game marks a homecoming for Yale grads Ian Perry (UBC) and Brad Kufske (TWU), and the Spartans’ roster also features MEI grad Tyler Koslowsky.

The event runs Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors, and are available at the door or by emailing Jenny_Perkins@sd34.bc.ca.

CLUB BASKETBALL TRYOUTS

The Abbotsford Basketball Club (ABC) is holding club teams tryouts on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The tryout is for players age eight to 13, and runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Columbia Bible College. Registration cost is $25.
