Abbotsford’s Nick Taylor picked up his first victory as a pro on Wednesday, winning an 18-hole event on the All-American Professional Golf Tour.

Taylor carded a four-under 68 at McCormick Ranch in Scottsdale, Ariz., then sealed the victory by beating Ryan Caughlan and Brian Prouty in a playoff. He earned $1,400 US for his efforts.

BRUINS BOUNCE BACK

The Fraser Valley Bruins major midget hockey team split a pair of games against the Vancouver North East Chiefs last weekend at MSA Arena.

The visitors barreled over the Bruins 8-2 in the opener, but the Bruins bounced back with a 4-1 win in the second game. Mike Nolan led the way with four points in the win, while Alex Orth turned in a strong goaltending performance.

CUMMINGS LEADS CHARGE FOR T-WOLVES

Ben Cummings had a monster game for the Robert Bateman junior football team, rushing for five touchdowns in a 64-28 win over the Rick Hansen Hurricanes on Wednesday.

The Hurricanes led 28-26 late in the second quarter, but the T-Wolves reeled off 38 unanswered points, with Cummings racking up 272 total yards on the ground. Austen Zacher returned an interception for a TD and also rushed for a major, while quarterback Tanner Friesen ran for a pair of scores. Kole Lochbaum led the defence with 13 tackles and one fumble recovery.
