Squash club picks up pace

The Nanaimo Squash Club is hosting its major annual tournament, the RLR Nanaimo Open, starting Thursday (Jan. 31).

The action at the Nanaimo Squash Club will be even a little bit faster next weekend as premier players descend on the city. The club is hosting its major annual tournament, the RLR Nanaimo Open, starting Thursday (Jan. 31).

Squash B.C.’s top three players in the men’s rankings are all entered. The Nanaimo Squash Club’s head pro Andrew Birks will be up against guys like Jericho’s Viktor Berg and Vancouver’s Justin Todd in the A flight division. There are men’s and women’s A, B, C and D flights at this week’s tournament, plus 50-plus and junior divisions.

Spectators are welcome. The schedule of games wasn’t available at press time, but the Nanaimo Open’s championship matches will be played in the early afternoon Feb. 3.
