Stadnyk earns first in butterfly, team smashes records

Shuswap Swimmers broke more than 35 team records in the Kelowna Aquajets second Annual Long Course Invitational Swim Meet, May 6 to 8.

• 10 and under girls – Lilli Rakose-Lund earned a spot in the 100-metre breaststroke finals but was hurt getting out of the pool and couldn’t race. Nina McKee placed 22nd in the 100-m freestyle race.

• 11-12 girls – Emma Pyle picked up fifth place in the 11-12 year old girls 400-m individual medley, and narrowly missed qualifying for the Swim BC “AA” provincial championships. Paige Coutlee placed ninth in the 50-m and 200-m freestyle races. Morgan Rasmuson advanced to the finals and placed eighth in the 50-m backstroke. Hannah Kalinczuk placed 16th in the 50-m butterfly.

• 13-14 girls – Bree Cooper took third place in both the 13-14 girls 100-m butterfly and 400-m freestyle races. Skyla Eberle was 11th in the 100-m backstroke, Chiara Kuzmick was 11th in the 100-m breaststroke and Jessie-May Baird was 14th in both the 200-m backstroke and breaststroke races.

• 15 and older girls – Chelsea Stadnyk was the only swimmer to return home with a first-place finish, which came in the 50-m butterfly race. Virginia Flahr placed 13th in the 50-m freestyle.

• Girls relays – The 11-12 girls relay team of Rasmuson, Pyle, Coutlee and McKee placed seventh in the 4 x 50-m medley relay. The 13-14 relay team of Eberle, Kuzmick, Baird and Cooper placed fifth in the 4 x 50-m freestyle relay. The 15-and-over  team of Stadnyk, Pyle, Flahr and Coutlee earned eighth in the 4 x 50-m freestyle race. The team of Eberle, Cooper, Baird and Stadnyk took 10th in their first Olympic distance 4 x 100-m freestyle relay.

• 11-12 boys – Ethan Quilty earned third place in the 100-m backstroke race in an exciting final. Olin Mosher scooped up third in the 400-m individual medley. Ty Webster Locke advanced to his first final, taking fourth place in the 50-m butterfly. Torrey McKee advanced to the finals in the 200-m backstroke and picked up sixth place.

• 13-14 boys – Logan Pilias earned third place in the 50-m butterfly race. Thomas Flahr took two ninth-place finishes in the 200-m freestyle and 400-m individual medley races.

 

• Boys relays – The 11-12 team of McKee, Quilty, Mosher and Webster-Locke earned fourth in the 4 x 50-m medley.

The 13-14 team of Pilias, McKee, Mosher and Flahr also took fourth, theirs in the 4 x 50-m freestyle.
