An early hole was not too much for the Langley Stampeders, who improved to 7-0 with a 44-12 victory.
The Stampeders were facing the Chilliwack Giants on Friday night at Townsend Park in midget football action and the victory gives them a share of top spot with the North Surrey Bears, Langley’s opponent this Sunday at McLeod Athletic Park.
Chilliwack was up 6-0 but the Stamps shook off their slow start to take control, getting a Nolan McMurchy field goal to get on the board, and then majors from Joe Carter (one yard), and quarterback Stephen Legare connecting with Nathan Murray from 37 yards out to lead at the half.
Devin Dacosta got the only touchdown of the third quarter with a two-yard run.
And Dacosta and the running game took over the in fourth as he scored on runs of 58, 16 and seven yards.
The offensive line of Clayton Frohlich, Cody McAllister, Zach Janzen, Josh Cook and Scott Tolnay, as well as fullback Cameron Kaulback, completely dominated the Giants at the line of scrimmage.
Chilliwack’s offence, which entered the game averaging just under 30 points, could not gain any traction. Connor Griffiths and Nathan Lonn shut down the inside running lanes while linebackers David Fredo, Wonjae Boo and Isaiah Okoli cleaned up the rest. And if any Chilliwack ball carrier was to elude them, Kyle Clarot and Tomas Sandberg were there to keep the gains to a minimum.
Legare had a solid game throwing the ball, connecting on big plays to McMurchy (51 yards), Murray (48 yards) and Jayden Korfman (49 yards).
