Stingy Eagles prove too much for competition

Langley peewee hockey team allows just two goals en route to gold medal at Vancouver tournament

Opponents of the Langley Eagles are probably giving thanks they do not have to face the peewee A4 hockey team anymore.

That is because the Langley rep hockey team annihilated the competition over the Thanksgiving weekend, cruising to top spot at a tournament hosted by the Vancouver Thunderbirds Minor Hockey Association at UBC.

The Eagles went a perfect 5-0, out-scoring the competition 22-2 to take home the gold medal.

The goaltending duo of Thomas Sproule (two shutouts) and Justin Card (one shutout) combined  with a strong team defensive philosophy to not allow a single goal over the final three games.

“The boys struck to a team strategy, showing tremendous respect for the game and they remained disciplined throughout the tournament,” said Langley head coach Bryan Barratt.

The Eagles shut out Semiahmoo 2-0 in the championship game with Sproule posting his second goose egg of the tourney, as well as player of the game honours.

Langley won their round robin games 6-1 over Kamloops, 6-1 over Vancouver and 6-2 over North Vancouver.

They then beat Ridge Meadows 2-0 in the semifinals.

“The team was short a player all weekend, but they stepped up and filled roles admirably,” Barratt said.

“Our boys will continue to strive to be the hardest working team and they look forward to the exciting season ahead.”

The team is made up of: Thomas Sproule, Adam Townsend, Carson Barratt, Justin Pilson, Brock Mierzejewski, Garett Whintors, Andrew Chin, Davis Kish, Patrick Hrkac, Liam McNeill, Lucas Cooper, Caleb Bozzard, Anthony Bosjnak, Coleton Fisher, Justin Card and Matt Gattinger.
