Strong showing for Langley Gymnastics

Langley gymnasts earn dozens of medals at B.C. championships at Langley Events Centre

Hundreds of gymnasts from around the province were at the Langley Events Centre over the weekend for the 2016 Gymnastics BC championships. Competing against more than 900 gymnasts from around the province, the Langley Gymnastics Foundation had a strong showing.

The club was competing at the B.C. gymnastics championships, which were held at the Langley Events Centre April 15 to 17.

The meet was hosted by Langley’s Flip City Gymnastics and Gymnastics BC.

In addition to dozens of podium finishes, several of the LGF athletes qualified for the western Canadian championships or named to the B.C. team for nationals.

Alexa Slipec, Amelia Van Andel, Kennedy Duke, Sage Bishop-Beaurone, Haley Biggin, Paula Urquidi, Emilie Hong, and Cathy Zhong qualified for westerns.

Haley Biggin, Paula Urquidi, Emilie Hong, Cathy Zhong, Angel Zhong, Tyler Welch, Victor Blaine, Brandon Macdonald were named to the team for nationals. Nicolas Cruz will also attend nationals in the novice category.

Grace Hernberg (JO 7) gold on beam.

Emma Nash (JO 7) third all-around, third on uneven bars.

Alexa Slipec (JO 8) first all-around, first on beam, second on uneven bars.

Cassandra Principe (JO 8) third on beam.

Amelia Van Andel (JO 8) second all-around, second on floor, third on uneven bars.

Kennedy Duke (JO 8) third all-around, first on vault.

Brooke Miller (JO 5) third on beam.

Madisyn Dunn (JO 5) first all around, first on vault, beam.

Haileigh Cook (JO 5) second all-around, first on floor, second on vault.

Amber Hildebrand (JO 5) third on beam.

Nicole Czerniakowski (JO 7) first all-around, first on uneven bars, beam.

Sage Bishop-Beaurone (JO 9) second all-around, second on beam, third on uneven bars.

Haley Biggin (JO 10) first all-around, first on beam, uneven bars.

Emilie Hong (JO 10) second all-around, second on vault, uneven bars.

Paula Urquidi (JO 10) third all-around, third on vault, uneven bars.

In the team competition, LGF was first in the JO 10 level and second in both the JO 7 and JO 8 levels.

And in the men’s artistic gymnastics, several LGF athletes found the podium.
