Summerland Curling Club begins season

Curlers in Summerland are on the ice as the curling season has now started.

The season began on Oct. 11 and continues until spring.

There are leagues during the day and in the evenings Monday to Friday, with bonspiels and tournaments on weekends.

Around 200 curlers of all ages, from students to seniors, are are participating.

Cheryl Jaeger, office manager at the curling club, said there are still spaces available for those who want to play.

“We’re not going to turn anyone away if they register,” she said. If spaces are not available on regular teams in certain leagues, there are opportunities to be included on spare lists.

In addition to the adult leagues, youth curling will be offered again this year. A mini bonspiel will also be included in this year’s youth league.

A Learn to Curl course will be offered once again this year, taught by members of the Summerland club.

A series of bonspiels will be held this year.

The first is the Senior Men’s Open, Nov. 21 to 23.

A Stick Spiel will be held Dec. 10 and the Seniors’ Christmas Fun Spiel will be held Dec. 19 to 21.

The Mixed Bush Spiel will be held Jan. 6 to 8 and the Ladies Open will be Jan. 21 to 22.

The Men’s Open will be held Feb. 10 to 12 and the Junior Bonspiel will be held Feb. 19.
