It’s time again to bring hockey to the pavement in Abbotsford.

The second annual Take it to the Streets ball hockey tournament returns to Sevenoaks Shopping Centre on May 28, with proceeds from the fundraiser going to Matthew’s House in Abbotsford.

The event is a full day of four-on-four ball hockey open to ages 10 and up in all skill levels.

The tournament is designed to offer both recreational and competitive street hockey in several divisions.

Games consist of two 15-minute halves, and there are no offsides, icing and no red or blue lines.

Teams must have a minimum of four and a maximum of seven players.

Teams are penalized with penalty shots, and slap shots are not allowed. Organizers recommend bringing gloves, eye protection, helmet, jock, mouth guard and shin guards, but a stick is the only required piece of equipment.

Divisions are separated by age, gender and high school for youth players, and adult divisions include male, female, co-ed and 35 plus.

The event is also looking for volunteers and officials to help out with games.

The big winner of the event is Matthew’s House, a home away from home dedicated to caring for children who live with complex healthcare needs. Visit mattshouse.ca for additional information.
