Abbotsford golfer Nick Taylor has survived the first stage of European Tour qualifying school.
Needing to finish among the top 21 (plus ties) in Ebreichsdorf, Austria to advance to the second of three stages, Taylor carded rounds of 69, 69, 71 and 65 to end up tied for sixth at 14 under par.
Taylor, the former No. 1-ranked amateur in the world who is in the midst of his first full season as a pro, moves on to second-stage qualifying, which runs Dec. 2-5 in Spain.
• Fellow Abbotsford golfer Adam Hadwin is in Venezuela this week, representing Canada in a World Cup of Golf qualifying tournament.
Hadwin and Roger Sloan of Merritt comprise the Canadian team. The tournament format sees teams playing best ball on Days 1 and 3, and alternating ball on Days 2 and 4.
The Canadians will be aiming to finish in the top three out of 14 nations and earn entry into the $7.5 million Omega Hills World Cup, to be played in China in November.
