TED United remains top of the NOWSA Competitive league with a less-than-convicing win over NET Celtics of Vernon on July 5.

Playing in 31 degrees on a bumpy pitch were not the ideal conditions for both teams. TED started the game well but as the first half progressed, chances were at a premium.

A gritty and determined NET broke the deadlock to take the game to the half with a 1 – 0 advantage.

A pep talk from the coach brought TED to life and, early in the second half, a beautiful shot on the turn from all of 22 yards by Kim Turner looped over the keeper and into the goal. Spurred on by the goal, two minutes later Alyssa Blair scored her first goal for TED. Collecting a pass 24 yards out she raced clear of her marker and blasted the ball beyond the goalkeeper to make it 2 – 1.

It was soon 3 – 1 with a passing move that made Barcelona look like a pub team.  Great movement and ball skills led to Kyla Sherman squaring the ball in front of goal for a composed Sue Doray to apply the finishing touch.

Both teams had several chances but as the game wore on the heat took its toll and both players were happy to hear the final whistle.
