Thompson-Okanagan boys are onto softball’s gold medal final

Boys will either end with gold or silver draped around their necks

Head coach Cheryl Flundra of the Thompson-Okanagon (Zone 2) boys softball team expects nothing more than “good old teamwork” from her boys, and she considers it a great honor to have made it into the final game, where her squad will either end with gold or silver draped around their necks.

“Our stronger core group of kids had wanted to have everybody participate in the last game,” said Flundra.

With such good sportsmanship in her team, Flundra’s said her Zone 2 boys definitely epitomize what it means to have good teamwork.

“You win as a team, you lose as a team, and stick together as a team,” said Flundra.

The boys were under great pressure, but Flundra says they didn’t feel nervous or anything before the game began.

Coming out of the games with silver around their necks, Zone 2 is more than proud of their win.

12-year-old Julian Dewey from Clearwater said, “We’ve only had three or four practices,” but obviously it was enough to get them this far.

“The whole weekend… being here was awesome and the medals look awesome,” said 13-year-old Tim Afflek, also from Clearwater who is excited to show off his hardware when he gets back home.

“Silver is nothing to be ashamed of,” is what Flundra has to say about her team’s effort.
