Three Langley junior girls teams advance out of opening round

Walnut Grove, Brookswood and Langley Christian all victorious in win-or-go-home game at Fraser Valley championships

Three of the four junior girls basketball teams from Langley have moved on to the round of 16 at the Fraser Valley championships, including one by upset victory.

The third-seed Walnut Grove Gators, the Langley district champions,  disposed of the No. 30 Guildford Park Sabres 57-28 on Monday afternoon at Walnut Grove Secondary. The victory sets up a match against No. 14 Fraser Heights on Feb. 20 at WGSS. Game time is 2 p.m.

Also advancing from Monday’s opening round were the No. 9 Brookswood Bobcats and the No. 23 Langley Christian Lightning.

The ’Cats dumped the MEI Eagles 49-35 and they now face the No. 8 Heritage Woods Kodiaks at W.J. Mouat Secondary.

The Lightning pulled off the upset, defeating the No. 10 Yale Lions by a score of 49-33.

Langley Christian draws the No. 7 Earl Mariott Mariners in their next game on Feb. 20 which will be played at Riverside Secondary.

The Mariners prevented an all-Langley game by defeating the No. 26 R.E. Mountain Eagles 60-34.
