The Mighty Fraser Pro Rodeo, held in conjunction with Agrifair last weekend, featured a series of terrific performances as cowboys and cowgirls competed for a prize pool worth over $47,000.
Michael Solberg of Sunnynook, Alta. and Jake Marshall of Wardlow, Alta. finished in a rare tie for first in the bareback riding event, both scoring 85.5 points. Dusty LaValley was third with 84 points.
Curtis Cassidy of Donalda, Alta. took the steer wrestling title with a clocking of 3.6 seconds, narrowly edging Baillie Milan (3.7) and Craig Weisberger and Coleman Kohorst (3.9 each).
The duo of Stacy Cornet and Dale Skocdopole of Big Valley, Alta. won the team roping with a time of 6.2 seconds, just ahead of Jeff Robson/Klay Whyte (6.4) and Brett Buss/Matt Fawcett (6.8).
Sam Kelts of Millarville, Alta. was the saddle bronc champ, scoring an 84 to finish ahead of Luke Butterfield (81) and Kyle Thomson (78).
Erik Dublanko of Thorsby, Alta. wrapped up the tie-down roping title in eight seconds flat, beating out Clayton Moore (8.3) and Logan Hofer (8.7).
Joleen Seitz of Savona was the lone B.C. champ, as she won the barrel racing with a time of 15.084 seconds. Katie Garthwaite (15.106) and Gaylene Buff (15.153) were second and third, respectively.
Bull rider Scott Schiffner’s margin of victory was less than a point, as the Strathmore, Alta. native scored 83.5 to edge Ty Elliott (83) and Cody Moore (81).
