Thunder take stranglehold

Langley one victory away from playing for WLA championship

The Langley Thunder can close out their first round playoff series with a victory on Monday (Aug. 8) at the Langley Events Centre.

The senior A lacrosse squad took a 3-0 stranglehold in their best-of-seven Western Lacrosse Association playoff series with a 9-7 victory over the Victoria Shamrocks on Saturday night in Victoria.

Patrick Saunders and Alex Turner both had two goals and an assist while Brodie MacDonald made 50 saves.

The Thunder power play came through in the game, striking for three man-advantage goals in four chances. Conversely, Langley did not allow Victoria much power play time, blanking the Shamrocks on their lone opportunity.

The teams were tied at three after 20 minutes, but Langley took a 6-5 lead into the locker room after the second period.

The Shamrocks tied the score early in the third, but Langley closed the game with three of the final four goals.

Andrew Potter had a goal and two assists, while Kyle McEwen and Jamie Lincoln had a goal and an assist apiece.

Jarrett Toll and Todd Stockdale had the other Thunder scores.

Game four of the series is Monday (Aug. 8) at the LEC at 7:45 p.m.
