Langley sweeps Victoria in WLA semifinals

With the score tied at seven midway through the third period, the Langley Thunder took control, scoring six of the final seven goals to earn a first round sweep of the Victoria Shamrocks.

The Thunder won game four of the best-of-seven Western Lacrosse Association playoff series 13-8 on Monday night at the Langley Events Centre.

The Shamrocks were seeded second, four points ahead of the third-place Thunder. But Langley was undefeated (1-0-2) against Victoria during the regular season.

In Monday’s deciding game, the teams traded goals for the first 50 minutes, with neither side able to lead by more than one. But after Victoria evened the score at 7, the Thunder took control, rattling off four goals in 3:28 to seize control.

Athan Iannucci paced the attack with six points (three goals, three assists) while Alex Turner also had a hat trick. Jamie Lincoln (two goals, three assists), Kerry Susheski (two goals, one assist) and Rob Van Beek (one goal, two assists) also had multi-point games.

Nick Bilic and Andrew Potter had a goal apiece.

Brodie MacDonald stopped 37 shots for the win.

Langley awaits the WLA’s other playoff series between No. 1 New Westminster and No. 4 Maple Ridge.
