Thunder use third-period comeback to down Adanacs

Five goals in final 20 minutes gives Langley senior A lacrosse team 10-8 victory

The Langley Thunder continue to play the role of spoiler.

With their post-season hopes long dashed, the senior A lacrosse team won for the second time in three games with both victories hampering their opponent’s playoff chase.

The Thunder defeated the Coquitlam Adanacs 10-8 on July 20 at the Langley Events Centre in Western Lacrosse League action, with the win improving Langley to 3-12. Coquitlam fell to 6-8 and the Adanacs are three points back of the last playoff spot with four games to play.

Mitch McMichael led the way against the Adanacs with two goals and two assists to earn first star honours while Cole Shafer was the third star after scoring a hat trick.

The teams were tied at four after one period but Coquitlam led 7-5 after 40 minutes. The third period was all Thunder, however, as the home team scored five of the six goals in the final 20 minutes for the 10-8 victory.

Matt Kristiansen had two goals and two assists while James Rahe had a goal and three helpers and Bryce Brochu notched two goals.

Markus Mattila, Jordan Dance and Connor Abrams each registered a pair of assists.

Brodie MacDonald made 45 saves as Coquitlam outshot Langley 53-43.

Langley has three games remaining, July 27 against Victoria and Aug. 3 against Maple Ridge, both of which are at the LEC, and July 28 at Queen’s Park Arena against New Westminster.

Their three opponents hold the first three spots in the WLA standings.
