Fraser Valley major midget hockey team picks up one out of four points in weekend home-and-home series with Valley West Hawks

A frantic third period where the teams combined for six goals saw the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds come up one goal short, dropping a 4-3 decision to the Valley West Hawks.

The Thunderbirds were down 3-0 with less than eight minutes to play but the major midget hockey team made things interesting with a flurry of goals. The team cut the lead to 3-2 with 91 seconds to play but the Hawks tacked on an empty-net goal with 1:10 to play and that goal proved to be the winner after Brodi Stuart brought the T-Birds back within a goal with 36 seconds to play.

Nowel Maarhuis and Baxter Anderson had the other Fraser Valley goals while Dylan Debruyn had a pair of assists.

The game was played Sunday morning at the Langley Events Centre.

The teams also battled to a 2-2 tie on Saturday at the Abbotsford Recreation Centre.

Carter Graham and Jonathan Rees scored for Fraser Valley in that contest.

The Thunderbirds sit at 3-4-1 through the first eight games of the BC Major Midget Hockey League.

The T-Birds are back in action with a home-and-home against the Vancouver NE Chiefs this weekend.
