Tino Marin won the National Trials Championships (West), taking first place in the expert category in the two-day competition in Revelstoke last weekend.

44 dirt bikers young and old and of all ability levels took part in the event, competing in categories including junior, intermediate, senior intermediate, advanced senior advanced and expert.

The event took place in several old quarries off the Sledhalla (Frisby Ridge) Forest Service Road, near the Revy Riders dirt bike track.

There were multiple routes set up for different skill levels, ranging from steep hill climbs to gnarly technical rock gardens. Competitors would be given a point every time they put a foot down, with the victory going to the rider with the fewest points.

Marin, from Calgary, beat out Golden’s Sam King to win the expert category, while Stan Bakgaard of Yale, B.C., finished third.

Other category winners were Martin Lucas in junior, Koltan Morrison in intermediate, Bob Clark in senior intermediate, Brandon Schmidt in advanced and Steve Day in senior advanced.
