Langley Fundamental suffers upset loss in provincial quarter-finals, knocked out of medal contention

The Langley Fundamental Titans suffered an upset loss in the quarter-finals of the provincial championships.

Seeded fourth for the 16-team 2A senior boys tournament at the Langley Events Centre, the Titans lost in four sets to Prince George’s College Heights Cougars on Thursday night.

The Titans won the first set 25-22 but lost the next three, 25-16, 25-23 and 28-26.

Fundy, last year’s silver medalists at the provincial championships with a largely Grade 11 roster, had gone 0-3 in their power pool on Wednesday.

In Thursday morning’s round of 16 contest, they defeated Lambrick Park 3-0 (25-12,25-8,25-13) to advance to the quarter-finals.

The team did rebound on Friday morning to defeat McRoberts 2-1 (20-25,25-17,17-15) and will play for fifth place on Saturday afternoon.
