Abbotsford’s preeminent pro golfers, Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor, both posted top-10 finishes on their respective tours on the weekend.
Hadwin, after a relatively slow start to the Web.com Tour season, has rocketed up the leaderboard at each of the past two tournaments.
Coming off a solo fifth-place finish at the United Leasing Championship, the Bateman Secondary grad fired four straight rounds in the 60s (64, 65, 69, 67) at the Utah Championship at Willow Creek Country Club in Sandy, Utah.
That left him at 19 under par, tied for seventh place and three strokes back of Steven Alker of New Zealand and Australia’s Ashley Hall, who finished at -22 through regulation. Alker prevailed on the first playoff hole.
Hadwin earned just over $18,000, and moved up the tour’s money list from 67th to 49th with total winnings of $64,987.
Taylor, meanwhile, has been the most consistent player on PGA Tour Canada – he’s the only golfer to finish in the top 10 at all three events so far this season.
Coming off stellar results at the Times Colonist Island Savings Open (tied for fourth) and the Dakota Dunes Open (T2), he ended up tied for sixth at the Syncrude Boreal Open in Fort McMurray, Alta.
Taylor led after the first and second rounds after opening with a stellar seven-under 65 and following it up with a one-under 71, but he wrapped up the event with rounds of 73 and 70 to finish at -9 for the tournament. That left him four strokes back of the winner, Comox native Riley Wheeldon.
The result allowed Taylor to maintain his fourth-place ranking on the PGA Tour Canada order of merit with total earnings of $21,963. The top five at season’s end earn Web.com Tour cards.
