Julie King was named the PacWest women's soccer coach of the year.

The trophy case got a few new additions in the King household.

While daughter Jessica King earned most valuable player honours at the Canada West women’s soccer awards banquet — she led the Trinity Western Spartans in scoring en route to the team posting a conference-best record — her mom Julie King was named the PacWest women’s soccer coach of the year.

King is the first-year coach of the Kwantlen Polytechnic University women’s soccer program. She had previously worked as the technical director with Langley FC, and is still involved with the soccer club.

The Eagles went 4-5-6 and 18 points in 2014, an improvement of five points.

“Coach King has made such a positive influence with our team, not only with her vast knowledge on the game but how she builds relationships within the team and with each player,” said Kathlin Trudeau, a fifth-year defender on the team.

“She has worked hard to help us create a stronger team culture, a sense of pride, and shared goals that we all buy into.”

The Eagles advanced to the PacWest provincial championships, losing the bronze medal game 2-1 in penalty kicks to the Douglas College Royals.
