Salmon Arm students did their schools proud at the 45th annual Subway B.C. Secondary School track and field championships held in Burnaby June 3-4.
In the Grade 8/9 Invitational Provincial portion of the meet, Emilyn Sim of Salmon Arm Secondary out-distanced all but one competitor in the 3,000-metre race, claiming silver.
“Emmy had an excellent race,” said coach Pam Chudiak. “She got out in the front early, stayed behind the lead runner and maintained her pace with a great kick at the end. She was ranked fourth going in to the race. She finished with a time of 10:21 and beat her own record by 17 seconds.”
Sim took fifth in the 1,500-m.
Also in the Grade 8/9 Invitational, Grade 9 SAS student Don Robinson took 14th in the 800-m.
Three students participated from Shuswap Middle School. Maia Journeau took 13th in the long jump with Sarah Filiatrault right behind her in 14th, and Austin Pugh was 18th in the high jump.
Older SAS students competing included: Leo Filiatrault, who once again showed his high jumping prowess, taking sixth; Stella Mozin who was 24th in the 400-m; Austin Schneebeli who took 24th in both the 100 and 200-m; and Dylan Leveille who placed 20th in the 800-m.
