One of the most action-packed track and field seasons ever in Nanaimo is about to officially get underway.
The Nanaimo Track and Field Club will fire the starter’s pistol on its home schedule this weekend (May 28-29) with the annual Elwood Wylie Memorial Track and Field Meet at Rotary Bowl stadium.
The third stop on the Vancouver Island Athletics Association series will see competitors representing clubs up and down the Island, from children’s divisions to masters. Events run all day both days.
The Nanaimo club is also excited about its biggest event of 2016, the B.C. High School Track and Field Championships, which will be held June 2-4 at Rotary Bowl stadium. Several local high school students won Island championships last week and are expected to be in contention for provincial titles.
