For the past two months, the Mission City Outlaws have been unbeatable on home ice, winning their last 10 games at the Mission Leisure Centre.
But a 37-save performance from Nickolas Trenciansky changed all that in the junior B hockey clubs’ opening round best-of-seven playoff series on Tuesday (Feb. 17) night.
The Langley Knights prevailed 3-1 to take a 1-0 series lead in the PJHL Harold Brittain Division semifinal series.
Langley’s Joshua Smith and Mission City’s Kolby Steen traded first-period goals. But the Knights’ Dylan McCann and Mitchell Biermann had the only goals of the second period.
The Outlaws went 1-for-5 on the power play while the Knights were blanked in their five man-advantage opportunities.
The series shifts to Langley’s George Preston Recreation Centre for games two and three on Feb. 19 and 20. Game four will be Feb. 21 in Mission.
The Knights have home-ice advantage for the series as the second seed and they beat the Outlaws five out of six during the regular season.
