Turn-Key roll over Tirecraft

The Controllers (10-1-1) carried the play throughout the half but Tirecraft mounted a solid defence to limit their chances.

Turn-Key Controls brushed back Peters Tirecraft 2-1 in North Okanagan Soccer League action Sunday night at the Greater Vernon Athletics Park.

Turn-Key dominated possession early, and after numerous attempts on net, Andrew Pool buried a shot to the bottom, right corner.

The Controllers (10-1-1) carried the play throughout the half but Tirecraft mounted a solid defence to limit their chances. Kyle Richardson of Tirecraft (3-9-1) levelled the score on a wild scramble just before the recess.

The second half saw much of the same, with Turn-Key carrying the play but unable to break through the stubborn Tirecraft back line, led by Wings Man of the Match Dillon Martin.

Preston Tucker converted on a late penalty after Oben Tabe did some great work to draw the foul by Justin Mitchell inside the 18-yard line. Tirecraft keeper Peter Ka guessed the right way and stopped Tucker on the first PK. Tucker was awarded a second try due to infringement on the line.

North Enderby Timber stayed three points ahead of second-place Turn-Key by grounding Monashee Surveying FC 3-1 at Marshall Field.

Brent Poulsen opened the scoring late in the first half on a sweet left-footer that curled around the outstretched Monashee keeper Mike Beck.

Monashee kept up the hard work and equalized in the 50th minute.

Beck made several superb saves in tight, while Poulsen walked the ball into the net after a collision between the Surveyor sweeper and keeper.

Pat Schindler added late insurance for the Timber (11-1-1).

Meanwhile, the Okanagan Spring Brewery Camels extended their unbeaten streak to six games by dispatching Mind Smart 3-1 in Capri Insurance Men’s 45+ Soccer League action Monday night in Rutland.

Enderby newbie Gary Barker clicked from a sharp angle after a feed by Brian Williamson for the Camels’ 1-0 goal at 15 minutes.

Barker was tripped up inside the 18 near the 65th minute and John Orton converted the PK for his 16th snipe of the year.

Orton added insurance at 80 minutes on a pass from Barker, named the Burger King Man of the Match. The Camels are 7-5-2, Mind Smart 4-9-1.

Bosman Accounting of Vernon and the Pushor Mitchell Rented Mules of Kelowna ran to a 1-1 draw at soggy Marshall Field #2.

Revelstoke striker Louie Fuscaldo scored the goal of the year for Bosman early in the second half. Barry MacKay, who also makes the regular trek from Revy, sent a left-footed cross to the top of the 18, where John Matejika used his back to move the ball to Fuscaldo for the hard finish.

Harry De Haas ran around charging keeper Yogi Kongsdorf, after a Bosman defender lost his check, for the equalizer five minutes later.

MacKay sent multiple dangerous crosses from the left flank into the 18 and defended well for the Buy-Low Foods Man of the Match. Bosman is unbeaten in four games at 2-8-4, while the Mules are 0-9-5.

Brown Benefits took a firm hold of first place with a 4-1 victory over Turn-Key Controls at Parkinson #9 Field.

The Browns started out strongly but Turn-Key nearly opened the scoring on a counter attack when Bryan Schenker’s dipping drive was parried wide of the post by keeper Steven Heiss.

Tony Gonzales broke the deadlock at 20 minutes when he deftly chipped over onrushing keeper Ted Lurkins. Five minutes later, Steve Fagan’s low cross clipped the foot of a defender and the ball trickled into the bottom corner.

Darrel Hazell made it 3-0 just one minute before half-time with a great strike to the top corner. The Browns (13-0-1) struck again two minutes after the break when a fortunate deflection off referee George Simpson found the foot of Jim Kruiper, who deked his way into the box to score.

Turn-Key refused to surrender and were finally rewarded  at 75 minutes when a fine pass by Volker Otto put Mark Wasylyk clear and he slotted in his 14th, bottom corner.

The Kelowna squad could have extended the lead but were thwarted by the great goalkeeping of Lurkin. Turn-Key is 4-8-1.

The RBC Dominion Securities Man of the Match for Turn-Key was Rick Danyluk.

Brandt’s Creek Pub upset previously unbeaten Penticton United 1-0 at Parkinson #16, improving to 8-5-1.

Brandts managed possession for the majority of the first half and Brad Grainge rang up the winner in the 65th minute. Penticton (10-1-2)pressed hard with only 10 men but failed to equalize in the final minutes.
