Athletes from Abbotsford’s Twisters Gymnastics Club made an impressive medal haul at the Western Canadian championships in Saskatoon.
Ten athletes from the local club qualified, and they combined for 21 medals.
Brienna Gaspar supplied the highlight, winning the all-around gold medal in the provincial 4 tyro division, and also won silver on beam and floor, and bronze on bars.
Siblings Ashlynn and Tamara Skulstad also won all-around medals. Ashlynn took bronze all-around in the national open category, plus silver on floor, and bronze on beam and with the team. Tamara claimed five silvers in provincial 5 tyro – all-around, vault, beam, floor and team.
On the men’s side, Kyle Machibroda-Ames earned an all-around silver medal in the national open division, plus gold on floor and silver on pommel horse and rings.
Jeremy Gaspar, also in national open, won gold on rings, while Jeremy Filiatrault (silver on vault, elite 3), Michael Frew (bronze on parallel bars, elite 3) and Brendan Ansell (bronze on floor, provincial 4) also climbed the podium.
