Back-to-back victories have vaulted the Trinity Western Spartans to third place.
The women’s basketball team was in Kelowna over the weekend, downing the UBC Okanagan Heat 73-69 and 63-50 to improve to 6-6 in Canada West conference play.
Spartans coach Cheryl Jean-Paul likes what she is seeing from her team, which is eyeing its first post-season berth in three seasons.
“Tonight’s game was a better version of who we want to be as a program,” she said.
“I thought the adjustments we made to return to a style that was more fluid and patient helped us maintain our composure and the lead throughout most of the game.”
Sarah Cleveland led the way with 15 points while Janelle Traber had 13.
Friday’s contest was much closer as the Spartans built a 13-point third quarter lead and then hung on for the four-point win.
Cleveland again led the way, scoring a career-high 21 points while Tiffany Olsen and Traber had 14 points apiece. Olsen also had 10 rebounds and Holly Strom had 11 points and nine rebounds.
The team is in Brandon and Regina this weekend.
