Second seeds best be aware of the Trinity Western Spartans.
For the second straight week, the Spartans women’s volleyball team knocked off the country’s second-ranked team. This time it was the Winnipeg Wesmen falling 3-1 (28-26,25-10,25-27,28-26) and 3-0 (25-22,25-18,25-18) at the Langley Events Centre.
The result jumped the Spartans from seventh to third in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport rankings released on Tuesday.
“I thought we executed our game plan,” said coach Ryan Hofer, whose team improved to 10-4.
“We made the right things happen: my setters did a good job of distributing the ball and it was nice to come out with another win.
“Winnipeg is a good team and to be able to come away with a sweep is good.”
The Spartans were led by Kelci French, who had seven kills, seven assists and three digs. Alicia Perrin added six kills, two blocks and service ace and Nicole Bazin had a game-high four blocks to go along with three kills.
In Friday’s match, Amy Leschied finished with 16 kills and five blocks while Royal Richards had 11 kills and 10 digs.
French had a game-high 16 digs, six blocks, six kills and three aces.
Jodi Neufeld finished with a dozen digs and Chelsea Hudson had 36 set assists.
