BC LIONS defensive lineman Sean Ortiz, a native of White Rock, will share his skills at this weekend's UBC Thunderbirds Best in the West football camp.

The UBC Thunderbirds football coaching staff is winging its way to the Comox Valley for a Best in the West camp this weekend (May 19-20) at Woodcote Park in Courtenay.

The camp is for ages 11 to 18 of all skill levels. All positions are covered in the full-contact, full-gear sessions. The camp includes four practices and scrimmage and lunch both days plus a jersey.

Local organizers say it’s not too late to register by clicking on www.ubcfootball.com. Registration will also be accepted on Saturday before the camp gets underway at 8 a.m. Cost is $125.

UBC head coach Shawn Olson will be joined by his coaching staff of Jamie Stoddard, Paul Orazietti, Neil Cartwright, Jerome Erdman and Chris Hoople. Daved Benefield was scheduled to make the trip but has a previous commitment south of the border.

BC Lions Angus Reid, who has been a regular at the local camp for the past several years, was scheduled to be here this weekend but due to a conflict in his schedule is unable to attend.

Lions’ defensive lineman Sean Ortiz (from White Rock) is now pencilled in to be at the camp, as is recent Montreal Alouettes signing (fourth round draft pick and former Thunderbird) Lance Milton, a defensive back.
