The University of the Fraser Valley midfielder Megan Webster has signed with the Victoria Highlanders of the W-League.

Webster, the Cascades’ women’s soccer captain the past two years, is graduating from UFV with a bachelor of arts, with a major in criminal justice. Over her five-year career at UFV, she’s led the Cascades in scoring twice – with eight goals in 2010, and five in 2011.

“We are so proud of Megan,” Cascades coach Rob Giesbrecht said. “She has had a fantastic university career and she has been such a joy to coach. Her work rate, ability and passion for success will allow her to succeed at the next level.”

In 2010, Webster led UFV to the Canada West championship and a bronze medal at CIS nationals.

There are 30 teams playing in the W-League, including eight in Canada – Hamilton, Ottawa, Laval, London, Quebec City, Toronto, Vancouver and Victoria.

CASCADES SIGN TWO TOP PROSPECTS

As Webster departs, Giesbrecht is set to welcome a pair of highly touted recruits from the Vancouver Whitecaps girls elite program.

Kayla Klim, a goalkeeper from Burnaby, and Sam Ricker, a defender from Delta, will join the Cascades this fall, and Giesbrecht believes they’ll make an immediate impact.

“Not only are Kayla and Sam both exceptional soccer players, they both possess the quality of character and desire for success that we look for,” said Giesbrecht, whose team won the Canada West title and a national bronze medal in 2010, but missed the playoffs last season. “They will both thrive at UFV.”
