The V.I. Raiders added to their off-field team last week, naming Merv Unger as general manager of the Canadian Junior Football League club. The GM of the Raiders does not oversee player personnel, but rather handles business relations.
“I look forward to building the Raiders’ stature in Nanaimo,” said Unger in a team press release. “It is a community operation with an extremely enviable track record on both the local, provincial and national scene.”
Unger worked in the newspaper industry and was a Nanaimo city councillor.
“Merv has always been very active in the community, and he knows the business community,” said Hadi Abassi, Raiders vice-president.
