The Telus Van Isle 360 International Yacht Race will become more of a fan-friendly affair than ever in 2011.
That’s because organizers plan to use spot transponders to track the fleet during the two-week race around Vancouver Island. So fans can log onto the event website and see satellite technology tracking every vessel in the race.
“[It] adds a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘armchair sailor,’” said Janine Bell, event manager. “I think it will be a lot of fun to follow, especially down the west coast and the last leg through the Gulf Islands.”
