Five offensive lineman on the Salmon Arm Secondary Varsity Golds team are getting Warrior of the Week T-shirts this week after the team covered new ground in rushing statistics Friday.
“We had 329 yards of rushing, a real accomplishment,” said head coach Rob Neid.
The five players Neid gives credit to for the best rushing performance the program has ever seen are: Jordan Goertzen, Steve Gibbons, Kyle Jordan, Chris Szybunka and Will Walton.
“We really felt like we blew it last week when we lost to Kelowna,” Neid said. “We redeemed ourselves this weekend.”
The Golds were facing the Mt. Boucherie Bears.
Matrix Gathergood notched 21 carries for 126 yards, Cody Stubbins carried 13 times for 91 yards and a major, and Hayden Jeffery rushed 10 times for 66 yards and two scores.
Quarterback Eric Borthistle found PL Lord for a 59-yard touchdown.
On defence, Szybunka led with 10 tackles while Jordan claimed two sacks.
The final score: Salmon Arm Golds 27, Mount Boucherie Bears 18.
The Golds will play two more games at home over the next two weeks: Rutland on Friday, Oct. 14 and Kelowna on Oct. 21.
The senior Varsity Golds, play at 7:30 p.m. while the Junior Varsity Golds play at 5 p.m., both games at the SASCU Sports Field at Little Mountain.
