It was a goalie duel at the Nicola Valley Arena in Merritt between the Centennials and Penticton Vees Friday night.
Vees defenceman Brett Beauvais opened the scoring with two minutes remaining in the first period as he tallied his 10th goal of the season. Beauvais’ goal stood until Adam Tracey found a way to get a puck past Hunter Miska with 6:29 remaining. Entering the third period, Miska had stopped all 19 shots he faced. Both teams fired 10 shots on goal, then another 19 were fired in overtime, 11 for the Vees. However, shooters couldn’t solve the goaltenders for a 1-1 final. Miska and Centennials goalie Devin Kero made 36 saves. Kero was named the game’s first star, while Miska earned second start honours.
Heading into the game, Vees defenceman Chris Rygus said that special teams would be key. The Vees went 0-for-4, while the Centennials went 0-for-3. The Vees are now 24-9-2-3 for 53 points, while the Centennials are 19-14-3-1 for 42 points. The two teams will meet again Sunday at the South Okanagan Events Centre at 3 p.m.
